Habitat 500 - 2011 Wrap Up

We did it! You gave your gifts and we gave it our all.

The Habitat 500 Bike Ride: July 10-16, 2011

Now in its 19th year, the Habitat 500 is a bicycle ride and fund raiser that covers 500 miles over the course of 7 days. Each rider raises funds from family, friends, businesses and church groups and designates the Habitat for Humanity affiliate they wish to support.

We're Number 6!

Due to the combined building efforts of U.S. affiliates, volunteers and donors, Habitat for Humanity International ranks as the sixth largest homebuilder in the United States, with 6,032 closings in 2010, according to Builder magazine’s annual survey. Each year, the magazine compiles information from U.S. builders and lists the top 100.

WLSHFH wins the Best Practices Award for A Brush With Kindness

Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity was recognized in the presence of over 140 Habitat staff, Board Members, and volunteers at the 2011 Best Practices Awards Ceremony in Nisswa from March 10-12. WLSHFH was the recipient of this year’s 2011 Best Practices Award in Construction and were chosen for the award due to the strength of our A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) program.

When Westmoreland Rotary 25 Foundation president Steve Mangan dropped by the office to present a check for $4,500 to sponsor A Brush With Kindness project this spring he shared some encouraging feedback.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Habitat for Humanity of Western Lake Superior!

What a wild and wonderful year! We completed construction on a new home in Cloquet and rolled out "A Brush With Kindness" home repair program that helped homeowners from Superior to Lakeside, Proctor to Rice Lake stay safe in their existing homes. Thanks to your support and hard work many of our neighbors will be home for the holidays.
